CAREER ASSESSMENTS AVAILABLE AT RADFORD UNIVERSITY Here are some of the career assessment that are offered to assist our students in determining what major they may be interested in pursuing at the University and what career opportunities are a best fit for their values, goals, or skills and abilities. To have someone administer, score, and interpret any of these assessments for you, please contact John Liptak, Associate TheCareer Exploration Inventory – By John J. Liptak, Ed.D. This is a guide for exploring work, leisure, and learning. The 120 questions lead to a clearer picture of careers you may be better suited to and will give you a unique perspective on your compatibility with the 15 major career clusters that most people fit. The assessment will also reveal other activities and information you can explore to help you further define your career interest. The Self Directed Search - By John Holland, Ph.D. Take one of the most widely used career interest inventories and discover the careers that best match your interests. This career assessment has been used by over 22 million people worldwide and it is available for students at RU. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator – Based on the work of Carl Jung This is one of the most widely used personality inventories and will measure a person’s preferences using four basic scales with opposite poles including; extraversion/introversion, sensate/intuitive, thinking/feeling, and judging/perceiving. The various combinations of these preferences result in personality types that can assist in finding a strong occupation choice based on personality type. Career Anchors – Discovering Your Real Values, By Edgar Schien from MIT Assists people in identifying eight themes or values and shows what their prioritized preferences are for these. By identifying values, it will assist in identifying career areas that are a good fit for your preferences. Transition to Work Inventory – By John J. Liptak, Ed.D. Identifies occupational and self employment opportunities related to interests. Job Search Knowledge Scale - By John J. Liptak, Ed.D. Identifies your knowledge in five important job search areas including: identifying job leads, direct application to employers, resumes and cover letters, employment interviews, and following up. Job Survival and Success Scale – By John J. Liptak, Ed.D. Identifies skills that are critical in today’s workplace including: dependability, responsibility, human relations, ethical behavior, and getting ahead.
