2009 Governor's Fellows Program: The Fellows Program was created in 1982 by Governor Robb and has continued across Democratic and Republican administrations since its inception.  Each year, a group of graduating college seniors and current graduate students are selected to work for two months in the Governor’s Office and Cabinets on a variety of substantive projects and are afforded a great opportunity to observe the operation of state government at the highest levels.  Fellows work standard weeks but also have the chance to travel on a small number of occasions to see state government in action outside of Richmond.  In addition, Fellows have historically participated in brown-bag lunches with most members of the Cabinet to discuss Secretaries’ backgrounds and important issues of policy.  For many Fellows, their experiences have launched careers in public service, and there are a number of former Fellows currently working in the Governor’s Office and the Cabinet.
The 2008 program will run from June 1 through August 7.  Applications must be postmarked March 6, and are available on our website:  http://www.governor.virginia.gov/servingvirginia/fellows.cfm .
